Admissions
Age criteria by year group
Ages are calculated as on 31 March of the year your child would join, which is the board norm. If your child falls a few weeks outside a band, talk to us before assuming the answer is no.
- Age reckoned on
- 31 March 2026
- Open year groups
- Nursery to Class 9
- Class 10
- Exceptional cases only
The table
Minimum age for each year group
Minimum, not maximum. A child slightly older than the band is usually fine; a child materially younger rarely is, and holding them back a year is more often the kinder call.

| Nursery | 3 years | 31 March 2026 | Must be toilet-independent |
| LKG | 4 years | 31 March 2026 | — |
| UKG | 5 years | 31 March 2026 | — |
| Class 1 | 6 years | 31 March 2026 | Transfer certificate required if previously schooled |

Borderline birthdays
If your child misses a band by a few weeks, call us. There is discretion, it is exercised case by case, and it is exercised in the child’s interest rather than the school’s.
Repeating or skipping a year
We will occasionally recommend placing a child a year below their age band after assessment. We effectively never place a child above it. Acceleration solves a short-term problem and creates a long social one.
No other criteria
Admission does not depend on parental occupation, alumni connection, donation, religion or the language spoken at home. Siblings receive no admission preference, only a fee concession.
Children with additional needs
Age criteria apply equally. Tell us about a diagnosed condition or support need at application, not after — it is never used against an application, and it lets us give you an honest answer about whether we can support your child well.
We are candid where we cannot. We do not currently have the specialist staffing for children who need full-time one-to-one support, and saying so before you enrol is more respectful than discovering it in October.
